Aftercare Support may include
Professional aftercare is often recommended by surgeons and GPs to help reduce complications, promote healing, and improve comfort.
Pre-surgical care helps prepare your body for recovery and supports the lymphatic system before surgery. It usually includes a consultation, aftercare guidance, and Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage.
We recommend 1–2 sessions prior to surgery to optimise your body’s readiness for healing.
Following surgery, structured aftercare helps reduce swelling, support tissue healing, and prevent complications. Treatments such as MLD, LED light therapy, and fibrosis management are provided within a safe, nurse-led environment.
If appropriate, we can also assist with the removal of drains, clips, or steri-strips, and review your compression garments for fit and comfort.

After any surgical procedure, patients tend to experience severe swelling and/or bruising, which can last up to a couple months post treatment. However, this can disrupt the body's natural lymphatic drainage, leading to reduced healing in the form of fibrosis and the possibility of developing seromas.
Our post surgery massages help to accelerate your recovery and decrease the chance of irregularities, lumps, bumps, and scar tissue formation, which can all affect the final outcome. Our treatments also help the skin to retract and conform to your new body shape. Treatments such as MLD are now seen as mandatory after a surgery and is recommended by the best UK surgeons.

A seroma is a buildup of clear fluid in a body and is a common complication of surgery. The drainage of a seroma involves inserting a needle into the seroma to remove the fluid.
Many seromas do not require treatment, as the body will often reabsorb the fluid. However, treatment may be necessary if the seroma causes discomfort, pain, pressure, or tightness.

Drains, Clips/Staples and Steristrips are all used within surgery to ensure your body heals correctly and safely.
However, they do require a certain level of care and must be removed by a specialist if and when required. It is important that wounds and scars are looked after correctly and at Smart Skin Aeshetics, we ensure just that!

Every patient's needs are different but it is recommended that you have 1-2 MLD Massages prior to surgery; ideally the 1-2 weeks and then 1-2 days before surgery.
The increase in lymphatic flow facilitates the healing process by priming the nodes and clearing out the body’s fluids and cellular debris, cleansing future incision sites making ready to operate and keeping free from infection. A firmer, drained skin is also preferable to a surgeon when making incisions, it helps keep them even and scars heal neater after.
Every client’s needs are different but we recommend at least an initial 5 -10 course of MLD Massages post surgery, which can start 24-48HR after surgery (with surgeons approval). If you opt for surgery abroad, then we can start just as soon as your fit to fly and return home again.
We adopt a personalised care plan to support your recovery because we understand no two individuals needs are the same, by applying only the latest evidence based techniques to ensure minimal downtime and maximise your recovery.
